Sunset Park has quietly become one of the better places in Brooklyn to have a drink after work. The R and the D drop you at 4th Ave, 5th Ave is packed with places to eat, and none of it has the Williamsburg markup. Here's how we'd do it.
What "happy hour" means at L'Wren
We keep it simple: $2 off every drink on the menu, every day until 7 PM. Not just well drinks, not just beer. The cocktail list, pitchers, wine by the glass, the rotating drafts, cans, bottles and hard seltzer all get the discount. Walk in at 4 PM and it's already on.
In practice that means a classic or spicy margarita is $10, the Paloma is $12, a draft from Other Half or Five Boroughs is $6, and a glass of Chenin Blanc or Carmenere is $8. A pitcher of Moscow Mules for four comes down to $48.
Turn it into dinner
The bites menu is priced for sharing, so the move is to order two or three things for the table around 6 and let the evening keep going. Our go-to combination:
- Korean style wings ($16): gochujang, sesame, or buffalo if you'd rather.
- Chips and guacamole ($14): made fresh, vegan, and the right thing next to a margarita.
- Double Trouble sliders ($17): two burgers, caramelized onion, tots on the side. Swap in a Beyond Burger for $18.
Three plates, a round of happy hour drinks, and you've had dinner for two for well under what a sit-down meal costs one avenue over.
Bringing a group
Six or more? Email lwrenbar@gmail.com with the date and headcount and we'll hold space. For a birthday or a team outing that wants an all-in price, there's a $35 per person 90-minute open bar available from 2:30 to 6 PM. Full details are on the happy hour page.
Make a night of it
On Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, happy hour ends at 7 and the comedy show in the back opens its doors at 7:30. Sunset Park Comedy Club runs stand-up in the rear at L'Wren with working New York comics, and tickets start at $12. Eat and drink up front, bring your glass in with you. Show dates are here.
