For a neighborhood with this many people in it, Sunset Park has never had a real comedy room. Bushwick has a few, Park Slope has a couple, and the rest of us have been taking the train. As of October, that changes: Sunset Park Comedy Club is opening in the back room at L'Wren.
What it is
A stand-up comedy club. Not an open mic, not a "comedy night" with a mic in the corner. A host, a lineup of working New York comedians, tight sets, about 90 minutes. The club is run by Old Man Hustle, the team behind Upper East Side Comedy Club in Manhattan, which uses the same model: a comedy room in the back of a bar you'd want to drink at anyway.
When
- Thursday and Friday at 8 PM, doors 7:30
- Saturday at 7 PM, doors 6:30
Tickets are sold on Eventbrite: $12 super early bird (a handful per show, gone fast), $15 early bird, and $20 at the regular price. Refunds up to 7 days before. Shows are 21+.
How a night goes
You walk into L'Wren like any other night. Order a drink at the bar, order some wings if you're hungry, and when doors open you walk to the room in the back and find a seat. Bring your drink with you. There's no drink minimum in the show room; the bar out front is the bar.
After the show, the comics usually stick around. The bar's open until 11 on Thursdays and 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Do it with happy hour
Our happy hour runs every day until 7 PM, $2 off everything. Show up at 6, eat, drink, and you're already inside when doors open. It's the best-value night out in the neighborhood and we're not being modest about it.
Bringing a group
A comedy show is a very easy birthday. For groups of 10 or more, email the club at sunsetparkcomedyclub@gmail.com and they'll help with seating. If you want food or an open bar before the show, that's us: private event packages are here.
Tickets
The full calendar, with a Buy Tickets button for every show, is on our comedy page and on sunsetparkcomedyclub.com.
